About Me

Job History

Points Sharp Steel

Tool Technician - 1/6/2020 to Present

My current job is a part-time job with flexible hours at my parents' business, Points Sharp Steel.

I assess tools brought in for repair, test them to diagnose issues, and look up the manufacturer's parts breakdown to start disassembling the tool and seeing which parts need to be cleaned, fixed, or replaced.

It is a heavy-industry job, and the hours are whenever we have tools in, and I find time to work on them, so the hours will not interfere with any other job

Kenworth Truck Company

Production Assembler - 7/2/2018 to 3/20/2020

At Kenworth, I worked as a production assembler, building semi trucks on the assembly line.

I spent the first year working on the rear end of the trucks, doing air line piping and wiring harnesses for the rear axles and rear brakes, which included mounting the valves and hardware for these functions. After that, I was doing front brake piping, wiring harness routing on the front end, and DEF line hardware mounting and routing.

The positions to mount hardware were determined through looking at provided CAD drawings, or navigating the internal build sheet software to pull up the CAD drawings for a specific part. The routing of air lines, wiring harnesses, and DEF lines were taught by my team, and routed to the company's standards, following Department of Transportation laws.

We followed Kaizen Continual Improvement at the plant, using a system of lean manufacturing, and I further helped reduce waste and increased efficiency by analyzing the processes I was doing, and finding ways to improve it throughout my time at the company. I quickly developed a good eye for recognizing patterns and standards within the work, so I was often the one finding and fixing defects within the truck, before they got to QA, which would lead to write-ups.

I was a major advocate for safety and proper PPE, doing job hazard analysis and reporting any major issues to management, to ensure nobody would get hurt on the job. Due to the nature of the work, most training was on-the-job tribal knowlege, and I trained multiple interns and full-time employees in my time at the company, as I developed a solid sense of a high-level view of the job, and often reflected on how to best teach the positions I've worked to other people

Coding With Kids

Instructor - 9/19/2017 to 6/12/2018

At Coding With Kids, I worked as an instructor, teaching groups of either K-2nd grade students or 3-5th grade students how to program, primarily in Scratch

I taught following the company-developed cirriculum, using code.org for the younger kids who were still learning to read, and Scratch for the advanced kids

Some classes with more students were working with a co-instructor, which we had to figure out between each other how to best teach each day, based on the students' progress. While programming was the main thing they did, I put a greater focus on establishing the basics of Computer Science for the students, while making lessons fun, so they could learn better for the long-term and still have a great time in class. Plenty of the class time was spent having them "play around" with Scratch, while guiding them to still be learning, and debugging their programs on the fly

Education History

Green River College

Currently Enrolled

At Green River, I have taken a number of classes to work towards a Pre-Engineering Associates Degree, primarily focusing on getting my mathematics done, with my highest level of math so far being Calculus II. Most classes have been "functional" classes like 100 and 200-level Engineering classes, and sciences like Chemistry and Physics. I have also taken a few lighter classes like Photography 101, Black and White Film Photography, because the process of developing film and creating prints in the darkroom is an amazing and entertaining process that is extremely satisfying to do.

Kentlake Highschool

Class of 2018

Kentlake is where I first learned my love of CAD and Solidworks, taking the Engineering Drawing class, along side the Robotics class under the same teacher. I took many AP classes, including Calculus AB and English Literature, with many other entertaining and useful classes like Marketing, Student Store Operation, Weight Training, and Creative Cooking.
